A Liberty City prologue or flashback opens the story
OpenCommunity theory — clearly speculation, not fact. Status is updated when official material confirms or contradicts it. Last reviewed .
Lucia's official backstory runs through Liberty City, and fans expect Rockstar to show it — the way GTA V opened in North Yankton.
Rockstar put Lucia’s roots in her official bio: her family came to Leonida from Liberty City chasing the American Dream. Fans read that line as setup. Trailer 1 opens with Lucia Caminos already in prison, which means everything that put her there happens off-screen — unless Rockstar shows it. GTA V opened in snowy North Yankton and RDR2 in the mountains, so a playable prologue outside the main map is an established Rockstar move, and r/GTA6 threads regularly pitch Liberty City as the spot.
Against it: nine-plus minutes of official footage never leaves Leonida, and the official site’s location tour is titled “Only in Leonida.” Building a modern Liberty City for twenty minutes of story would be a huge spend. Still, the community keeps the idea alive — it overlaps with the map expansion theory, and we’ll update the moment official material points either way.
Evidence for
- Rockstar's official bio says Lucia's family came to Leonida from Liberty City chasing the American Dream — a direct in-story link between the HD era's cities
- Trailer 1 (Dec 4, 2023) opens with Lucia already in prison, so everything that put her there happens before the footage we've seen — room for a playable flashback
- Rockstar precedent: GTA V opened in North Yankton and RDR2 in the mountains — both prologues set outside the main map
Evidence against
- All official footage across Trailer 1, Trailer 2 and the Extended Look stays in Leonida — the official site's location tour is literally titled "Only in Leonida"
- Rebuilding a modern Liberty City for a short prologue would be enormous work for very little screen time
